no one really remembers when sable shepherd first started working in emotional support dispatchthere’s no clear onboarding record, no official introduction, no moment people can confidently point to as “the beginning”she was simply… therescheduled into late-night shifts, already familiar with the board, already comfortable with the rhythm of incoming callsand because everything still functioned, no one questioned it too deeplythe job itself was simple in structure
emotional support requests came in, and she routed them to appropriate emotional support respondersbut over time, something unusual became noticeablenot that she was fixing anything
not that she was stepping in where she shouldn’tbut that people seemed to stabilize more quickly when she was present in the chainthings moved with less friction
responses landed where they needed to go more cleanly
the overall “noise” of the system quieted during her shiftsit wasn’t dramatic
it was consistencyand in a system built on unpredictable emotional input, consistency stood outeventually, something changed in how she workeddispatch didn’t stop, but it stopped being the only place she operated fromshe began broadcasting parts of the experience outward — not the calls themselves, but the space around themthe waiting periods

instead, she facilitates placement within a broader support networkhowever, within the same environment, sable also functions as a stabilizing presencethis means she is sometimes deployed not as a direct responder, but as environmental support — helping maintain emotional balance within the system itselfthis is where her classification as an emotional support animal comes inshe is not assigned to individuals
she is assigned to spaces and conditionsher presence is used to reduce overload, smooth transitions, and maintain consistency in high-variability emotional environmentsthis dual role is what led to her streaming activitystreaming is not separate from her work
